PRConnect alumni relations program kicked off in October 2016
Inaugural PRConnect event brings alumni together for fun and fellowship
A long-awaited UCM PR alumni relations program was introduced in fall 2016 through a special kickoff. The branded PRConnect kickoff event was brought to alumni through the collaboration of faculty, professional advisory board members, and students enrolled in a social media for special events course.
Graciously hosted by alumna and Aircraft Electronics Association President Paula Derks at the AEA Derby Center for Professional Development, the PRConnect kickoff event was attended by more than 40 program alumni.
Replete with good food and drink (of course), the evening’s networking fun began with a Connect16 icebreaker activity created by UCM public relations students. Once participants connected with 16 others through unique search and find questions, the stage was set to honor the first winner of the UCM PR Hall of Fame award. Long overdue, the award recognizes a highly accomplished, engaged and supportive alumni member; the first recipient was Paula Derks. More fun followed with participant in the Mo’s 3 scratch off game, created by UCM public relations students just for PRConnect events. Multiple prizes were awarded to Mo’s 3 winners. One winning completed Connect16 card was drawn at the event’s end. Alumnus Jon Haile took home a prized UCM PR logoed stadium blanket. “It was a blast,” said Haile. “I met several people at the event who call UCM PR home, but whom I had never met. I want to do this again, over and over. We have a super set of accomplished alumni.”
